***LIARS RULE AT LDRS XVI, HARTSEL COLORADO***
LDRS XVI was great, and although only two of us made it there, the LIARS presence was truly felt. Of the three altitude contests at LDRS, LIARS won two of them! Ken Goldstein won the PML 10,000 foot contest with a scratch built rocket on a K185. He had an altitude of 9702 feet, and received a trophy and a $280 PML kit. Fritz Katz won the Black Powder Altitude contest with his modified PML Cirrus on an H330 Silver Streak, which went 4389 feet. He won a nice plaque (and a bag of ignitors!)

On January 17th, 1997 the LIARS held a special election to elect a new Prefect, due to the sudden resignation of Prefect Ray Carlino. Ray has done an outstanding job and his leadership will be missed by all. The candidates for Prefect were LIARS Pres, Fritz Katz, and LIARS Sec, Mike Rosselot. The members selected Mike Rosselot to be their new Prefect. Congratulations to Mike, and thanks for his great job as Secretary. LIARS Ex President, Ken Goldstein was elected new Secretary. In other business, the LIARS membership approved the newly drafted LIARS By Laws.

On December 20th, 1996 the LIARS held their annual election of officers. Congratulations to President Fritz Katz, Treasurer John Slogick, and Secretary Mike Rosselot. All three were reelected for a second term.

***LIARS SPECIAL LAUNCHES AT LDRS XV***
After many months of hard work, the LIARS TEAM launched their first group project, a STEALTH TWO STAGE ROCKET. If you didn't see it at LDRS, then the Stealth part must have worked! However, you can see a drawing and some photos of it HERE.

***GET YOUR SERVO ELIMINATOR SOFTWARE!***
LIARS Ex Prefect, Bill Manganaro, has written an excellent article titled "Build This 2 Channel Servo Eliminator for Radio Controlled Applications". The article was published in the December 96 issue of High Power Rocketry. Here is the SOFTWARE you will need to build it. Here is a PICTURE of the ELIMINATOR. Bill now has not only 2 channel servo eliminators but also 4 channel devices as well. He will sell both preprogrammed devices, tested and professionally labled. Also look out in the future for his single chip receiver expanders that will give limited 2 channel radio systems the capability to control up to 8 channels of on/off control with up to several amperes each! (This will eventually be an HPR article when he is finished). Bill is also looking into producing PC boards for the Eliminators. You can email Bill at: 73510.2374@compuserve.com

***ROCKET FLIES AT ARDEC!*** In support of ARDEC's "Bring a Child to Work Day", ARDEC Engineer and LIARS President, Dave "Fritz" Katz launched a 1/4 scale Patriot Missile on an F25 motor. The crowd of 50 children cheered the successful flight, and then went inside to experiment with Nondestructive Testing Equipment and see the DISPLAYS.

RATS IV : IT GETS BETTER EACH TIME! by Mike Mooney
Rats IV was well attented by the LIARS with 15+ people from the club showing up at the South Jersey launch. The launch, held the 26 & 27 of Oct. 1996 had beautiful weather and low winds for this Fall outing. There were 7 M flights that were awesome, along with lots of K's and J's. There were over 200 flights on Sat. and almost the same amount on Sunday. Some of the LIARS member's great flights included the launching of Ray Carlino's scratch built V-2 "Bumper/Wac Corporal" project, the hypertech flights of Mike Rosselot and Ken Goldstein, Fritz Katz's 1/2 scale Patriot & box launcher, John Itsines V-2 launch attempt to Cert 2 again, (Sorry John), and my own flight of the Nimbus with an I-284 that went out of sight. (That's another story.) There were too many more to remember them all. It was a great way to end the flying season and start the building season. I'll see you all at Rats V.

NEW TRIPOLI PREFECT FORMED IN NORTHERN NEW JERSEY!
It's official, on May 13, 1996 notification was received from Tripoli that Dennis Luoni was named Prefect of Tripoli North Jersey #94. The club name is METRA, Metrapolitan Rocketry Association. Further good news, METRA has secured a flying field in Vernon, NJ near Action Park. The FAA maps were checked and it looks like we are in the open as far a commercial traffic is concerned. Waiver is for 4600 feet, with higher windows available. The property owner seems to be even more excited than we are! METRA president is Bill Rossi, Secretary is Ted Apke and Dennis Luoni is Prefect. Hope to see you soon! Rickeys Farm is located on Route 94, just up the road from where 515 joins 94. DIRECTIONS.

On January 21, 1996 LIARS member Paul Gasparo and his PML Triton Concept were featured on page 14 of the New York Times Magazine section!

Its Official, Fritz Katz of the LIARS now holds the Tripoli National Altitude record for an "H" powered flight. The altitude was 7287 feet using a modified PML Cirrus on a Vulcan H142.

Many LIARS attended the Fall 95 Culpeper Launch on Nov 18-19. One of the highlights of the launch was a visit by a CNN News crew. They shot a lot of tape which was edited down to about 2 minutes and 30 seconds. The story ran on CNN News on Satuday night and was repeated on Headline News and CNN all day Sunday. Here is the text from the CNN report.

Ken Goldstein has created a LIARS BBS , which will allow a secure exchange of infomation between LIARS. Ken has also made an email list of all LIARS that are online. By using LIARS Email , you can send email to all the LIARS, or any individual LIARS member.

The LIARS were represented at LDRS XIV. Members Ken Goldstein and Fritz Katz brought rockets more than 2500 miles to fly at the Black Rock Desert. Ken flew his scratch built "What's The Frequency, Kenneth?" (WTFK) on a Hypertek Hybrid. This rocket was full of HAM Radio equipment and was featured in the October Hypertek ad (see Oct HPR mag). The December issue of HPR has a detailed article on the rocket's electronics. CAD drawing of the WTFK rocket by Ray Carlino. Fritz flew a PML Cirrus to an altitude of 10,493 feet, his personal best. He also flew his Fritzfire II missile.

On December 2, 1995, the LIARS Home Page had its 5000th visitor!

On Tuesday April 4, 1995, the New York Newspaper "NEWSDAY" published an article about the World Wide Web. The LIARS Home Page was mentioned in the Article.

A rocket launch sponsored by the ARDEC Future Scientist Program was featured on the front page of the Daily Record Newspaper on May 23, 1995

LIARS Tips & Tricks
Tip #1. Tip #2.

Many LIARS went to RATS II and the Fall Culpeper launches. Here is a launch report on both. Here is a good launch report on RATS II only.

Here is an Oct 1 Launch Report from a Northern New Jersey launch. Here are 3 PHOTOS from the launch.

FIRST HIGH POWER LAUNCH IN NORTHERN NEW JERSEY!
The High Power Launch on Sunday July 16, 1995 at the Sussex County Fair Grounds was a partial success. The 3 hour waiver for 4000 feet began at 2:00pm. It was somewhat windy, and the largest motor used was only an H, but everyone was having a good time. There were about 60 people in attendance. Around 3:45 it got really windy and dark. Then the rains came, and boy did it rain! Everyone left in a hurry. A new launch site is being sought. Call Lou for details, 201-831-7717. Or email Lou at zephobby@aol.com

BATTLE PARK '95 WAS EXCELLENT IN SPITE OF RAIN!!!
The Annual Spring launch held in Culpeper, VA on 29-30 April 95 was outstanding, even though the range was closed at noon on Sunday due to rain. Saturday's weather was sunny, mid seventies, and very low wind. There were 243 launches on Saturday. Ten members of the LIARS attended the event. Thanks again to Mike Showalter and Virginia Tripoli. PHOTO - Rich Termini & Ken Goldstein sit in the shade of the LIARS Limo.

NEW JERSEY (That's right, NEW JERSEY!) Hosts High Power Launch!
The ROAR AT THE SHORE, hosted by Garden State Tripoli, was held on April 8-9, 1995. The launch was very well organized and located in a huge field. Seven LIARS were in attendance on Saturday. Weather conditions on Saturday were warm, partly cloudy, and really windy! How windy??? So windy that a LOC Bruiser blew over on the pad, just seconds before launch. So windy that a Cluster R Skyraider, which was launched on a K or L and had a perfect flight and landing, was then dragged by the chute across the field, across a paved road, and into the next field! When it was finally recoved, part of the fins, the front of the body tube, and the launch lug had been completely ground away. So windy that LIARS Prefect, Ray Carlino and LIARS Webmaster, Fritz Katz didn't even fly ANYTHING! Longer launch report.
